Air Disinfection
The GRU-VRange of Air Sanitisers
|
|
JenAct Limited are specialists in UV sanitisation technology and supply the GRU-Vrange
of air sanitisers and UV air disinfection technology and have several granted patents on their Microwave Excitation System for UV lamps and this technology is available for licence.
JenAct’s UV
technology can significantly reduce airborne pathogens in hospitals, doctors’ surgeries, gyms, offices and food factories.
From wall mounted sanitisers to patented UV systems for HVAC, JenAct contributes technology in
the fight against viral and bacterial infection. Tests have shown that UV is effective in reducing airborne pathogens, Sick Building Syndrome and surface cultures resulting from airborne transmission.
UV sanitisation is both chemical and residue free.
JenAct
can offer conventional UV air sanitisers from their GRU-V range for rooms and offices. Using UV destruction of airborne bacteria, the GR-UV is designed for use in public areas such as
waiting, recovery and consulting rooms Etc. where greater than average concentrations of airborne bacteria occur. Two fans circulate air over powerful UV lamps destroying bacteria as they pass through the unit. Typical room volume up to 200 cubic metres per unit.
For high volume applications, JenAct
can supply consultancy and components and also licence its Microwave Energised UV technology for air ducts and stand alone units. Such units can be configured to produce enhanced Ozone for odour and VOC reduction and for extended effect.

HVAC-UV Air Conditioning
|
|
On a much larger scale than the GR-UV, the HVAC
UV-AC system is designed to sanitise entire air conditioning air flows. This system can be designed as new build or retro-fit to existing AC systems in applications such as Hospitals, Nursing homes and Hotels, where Airborne Bacteria can cause anything from a nuisance to fatalities. The system can also generate Ozone to further sanitise ductwork and utilizing Vapour Absorbing Carbon Filters to remove all Ozone, VOC`s and other nuisance odours prior to being re-introduced into the building.
This system is being developed to tackle Sick Building Syndrome.

JenAct Generation 4 Technology:
|
|
A complex coaxial structure with multiple lamps. Microwave
power is coupled to one end of the reactor and a central coaxial core distributes energy evenly to splitters at both ends that then divide power to radial co-axial structures, each with an
electodeless bulb in a radial reflector. Advantages are that maximum use is made of generated UV light, multiple bulbs can be evenly illuminated from one simple power source and the
structure is simple, strong and easy to manufacture. Patent pending.

UV Light may zap ‘sick building’ complaints – CBC News, 28 Nov 2003
|
Dick Menzies at McGill
University in Montreal, in tests involving 771 office workers, found that by installing UV germicidal lamps in the air conditioning systems of three office blocks they could cut
‘sick building syndrome’ symptoms by 20%.
The lamps were switched off for the first 12 weeks of the study, while the office workers were quizzed on their specific symptoms. The lamps
were then were switched on for four weeks and off again for 12. In total, this test was repeated three time over 48 weeks.
In workers reporting symptoms, switching on the UV
lamps resulted in a 20% overall reduction. It also slashed respiratory symptoms by 40% and mucosal symptoms by 30%.

Tests show that bacterial loading is dramatically reduced in a short time after UV sanitisation is introduced in test situations.
In real world situations effectiveness will depend on human / animal traffic in a room and other factors that affect the introduction and type of bioburden.
Many people’s concerns are based on surface contamination – don’t forget that much surface contamination is delivered by airflow. |
Effectiveness tests using JenAct
technology in graph were performed using open air exposure plates – in reality a test of surface contamination.
Dramatic reduction in bio-burdens can be observed in a matter of hours. Applications include food preparation, healthcare, pharmaceutical, offices and ships. |
